DAFFIS - Desktop Automatic Face and Finger Identification System Human fingerprints are unique to each others, and thus can be regarded as some sort of signature in certifying the specific identity but it needs specialist or a system to identify fingerprint. The novel method is first identifying the person by the face and then identify by other traits. (Human Being is recognised by fellow human being by the face). The most popular application of this biometric security is in criminology. However, nowadays, face and fingerprint recognition system is increasingly implemented in various fields, such as, computer/network resources, control access to physical locations, bank accounts, or time and attendance system in enterprises. A typical application could be as depicted below.
Desktop Automated Face & Fingerprint Information System(DAFFIS) has three major parts, namely image acquisition, image enhancement and data collection. In the image acquisition stage (enrollment process), the captured images will be processed through a series of image processing algorithms, in obtaining unambiguous images(enhancement process). Essentially, the quality of these images is free from noises, such as scars, cuts, smudged areas and has less dependency on external parameters like light, background, etc. Next, based upon the unique features of the image, templates are created from these images, these images are in binary format and cannot be replaced or manipulated by any external sources (Hence hacking is almost impossible). Furthermore, in the data collection stage (verification process), the system will either attempt to verify or identify an individual, by comparing the enrolled template with the verification template. DAFFIS has a unique capability of handling both Real time images and latent images. The input can be either with the sensor, cameras or from the scanners. The threshold can be adjusted for low security and high security purposes.
